Writing a letter to someone in power doesn't just have to mean writing to the president. Write to someone who has the power to make the change that you want to see! That could mean writing to a senator, the leader of an organization, a celebrity, the people in charge of your school, or the owner of your favorite restaurant. Do research to see who is the best person to write to about your topic.

You'll have a better chance of getting the change you want done if you write to someone who has shown interest in your topic in the past, through their own actions on your topic, or through their actions on similar topics. What does that person care about? If your goals align, they'll be more likely to help you.

You might also have a better chance of making change if you start at the local level. Write to someone at your state, district, or city level.

When you write a letter to someone, you should be formal and polite. Introduce yourself and why you are writing the letter. Explain what you want the person you're writing to to do and why they should consider helping your cause. But also let some of your personality show through, and show that you are passionate about what you're writing about!
